She was one of the darlings of the Welsh language music scene, gigging with the likes of Super Furry Animals, releasing singles and an album and working in America.

But Swci Boscawen’s career as a singer was brought to an abrupt end when she collapsed with a brain tumour at the age of just 26.

Fast forward four years and Swci – real name Mared Lenny – is now making a name for herself as an artist and this weekend she opened her first solo show at King Street Gallery in her home town of Carmarthen.

Dubbing herself “the accidental artist”, she turned to painting as a form of therapy while receiving treatment for brain cancer and discovered a passion for creating vibrant psychedelic canvases, earning herself the new moniker Swci Delic.

“I’m unable to work but now have this obsession with painting, which fills my day,” she said.
